This report is carried out by a so-called expert body, which on the one hand feasibility and to the other the carrying capacity of the start-up project at the beginning and end of the funding period. The founder can select the appraiser himself.

Which organizations can be a competent body

The application for a start-up grant: If you are planning to found a company and would like to apply for a start-up subsidy from the employment agency, you must have a personal consultation with your contact person there. You will then receive a form from him for the so-called viability check of your start-up project. In addition to this certificate of viability, you still need an expert opinion. This is an indispensable prerequisite for the granting of a business start-up subsidy when applying for it.

An expert opinion has seven components

  1. Information about the founder
  2. Information on the planned date of the start-up
  3. Description of the business idea in short sentences
  4. Place of independence (own office or own workshop etc.)
  5. Information on the expert (competent body)
  6. Opinion on viability based on the documents submitted (usually curriculum vitae, liquidity plan and capital requirements plan, sales forecast and profitability forecast) and the associated regular discussion
  7. Justification for forwarding the expert opinion to the requesting institution, e.g. B. in the case of a bridging allowance or start-up grant to the employment agency

What exactly does a competent body do?

A competent body, such as a start-up center, will therefore first deal very intensively with your business plan. The business model is also comprehensively analyzed and evaluated. Questions such as “In which industry is the company founded?”, “How attractive and sustainable is the product or service portfolio” or “How can the unique selling proposition be defined?” are answered. Furthermore, it is checked how intense the competition is, how big the market potential is, which target groups should be addressed for the product or service and which marketing and sales strategy should be used to reach the target group. The financial plan must clearly show that self-employment will at least ensure that the founder can support himself or herself.

In addition, the curriculum vitae of the founder is examined. Relevant professional experience in the industry in which the founders want to set up their own business, as well as basic knowledge in related areas of self-employment, are of great advantage. For example, if you have an education or a degree in engineering or IT and want to found a company in the appropriate environment, you should at least have acquired basic know-how in the commercial area, for example through further training.

In the case of founding teams, the CVs of the co-founders can also be attached if they have complementary knowledge, so that the team complements each other well in terms of the experience brought in.

The expert opinion covers all of these points and explains to the addressee of the document to what extent the interaction between the founder and the start-up project appears to be viable.

The expert opinion increases your chances

For founders, this means: the more detailed you plan and think through your start-up idea with regard to the content mentioned and have worked it out in a written concept or business plan, the easier it will be for an expert to assess the viability of your business plan and start-up project via an expert opinion certify It should be noted that there is no legal entitlement to the granting of the start-up subsidy. However, the expert opinion maximizes the probability of receiving the start-up grant. You then submit the positive expert opinion together with the certificate of viability and your business plan to the employment agency.
